Copgane Capsules

Copgane Capsules

For Treatment of Copper Deficiency

Copper (Cu) is a vital element in all animal species and is required for optimum growth, white cell function, pigmentation, bone and hair development and a healthy nervous system.

Copper deficiency in ruminants is known as Enzootic Ataxia, otherwise known as “swayback”.

If present at birth, it will impact the animals’ development, resulting in a depressed immune system, increased mortality, reduced fertility, anaemia and sudden death.

In Australia, copper deficiency can occur in regions with low copper concentration and/or excessive molybdenum or sulphur in soils and is prevalent in areas with sandy soils or regions with granite-based soils.

Product is suitable for:

Animal Species Description
Sheep and goats One capsule administered orally to adult sheep and goats.
Cattle For use in calves, and adult cattle. Copper capsule should be used in animals greater than 200kg bodyweight, generally greater than 12 months of age. Administer using a bailing gun that delivers the capsule directly into the gullet.

How Copgane works

Once swallowed, the capsule lodges in the rumen where the gelatin capsule dissolves and releases the oxidised copper needles.

The needles do not change much in the rumen and reticulum. They are progressively carried down through the omasum and abomasum. When caught in the fold of the abomasum, they stick to the mucosa. The low pH environment of the abomasum ensures that Copgane is dissolved slowly, gradually releasing ionised copper into the bloodstream.
